One of the first key components of the Glenroy Activity Center; preceding the Glenroy Road level crossing removal and Station upgrades, Morgan Court is Located in the heart of Glenroy. A thoroughfare linking Pascoe Vale Road Activity Centre to Glenroy Road, Morgan Court is a gathering place, a place to rest and socialise. Local retail business now face onto a high value public space adjacent to bus and train transport node. The sculptural forms create opportunities for social connection, performance, exhibition and art. The design encourages users to slow down and engage with the space and one another. A number of bespoke blocks are repeated throughout the space and when arranged, forming robust structures and spatial configurations. Each repeated arrangement of blocks creates the framework for multiple programs, types of occupation and scale of gathering. Using a minimal number of block types creates efficiencies through mass production while still allowing for limitless arrangements and configurations. The configuration encourages participation, chance encounters and social exchange, enticing the community to explore Morgan Court.
Set back from Pascoe Vale Road the scultpural forms, playful seating moments, tree canopy and striking wayfinding draws pedestrians into a safe and uplifting space. Once a back of house services access this is now a refuge for the community to spend time as they shop and access local services. One of the key moves in the wider longer term vision for Glenroy Activity Center which included upgraded predstrian prioritised connections along Pascoe Vale Road with at grade pedestrian crossing, seating moments and retentionadn filtrations systems at Belair Avenue, Lytton Street and Gladstone Parade. where a pallete of pavement materials furniture and traffic calming strategies bring the key intersections and frontages together building on the established and loved cultural icons of the local area.
